Sea grass Lampshade

We are busy with a custom design lampshade for a standing lamp.  The client has a beautiful large wooden lamp base (which I haven't seen yet), and wanted a "green" look for the shade.  So we made one from sea grass. The size is about 30 cm by 50 cm x 40 cm high.  (Just keep in mind that a sea grass lampshade this big, is very heavy and needs a copper fitting and a solid base - not for a flimsy, shiny, thin lamp base ;-)   ) So this is the process:

I found this sample of old french lampshades shades - long forgotten.  My 2 favourites are the first one in the second row and the last one in the same row.  What's yours?

Today is a very cold and wet day in the Cape.  Before I feel sorry for myself to be working all on my own, in this weather, I would rather like to share some of the beautiful lampshades we made-up this week.  What a privilege to be creative for my lampshade lover clients:

Kids Art

Between the job cards, I found this interesting commission that we are doing for a school.  We manufacture the frame, which will hanging against a wall, with a light bulb behind it.  The kids do designs on vinyl, which then gets glued to the frame.  They then hang it in the school passages.  Great idea, don't you think?
