A thousand men

I visited a 22 storey building. Every floor is filled with office space and staff. Hundreds of people come and go through the front door. It felt like peak hour at a train station, except that everybody were friendly and made time to greet and chat.

I wondered if anyone ever noticed the lighting, in the Cafeteria at the entrance? I did...

Water lily lampshade

Sometime ago I saved a lampshade from getting demolished. It is such a pretty shape, I just had to keep it.  This week one of me clients, who's home has a retro feel and look, decided that this shade is a" must have". Well, as lampshade making is always a challenge, off we go.  Herewith the old shade, and the frames of our new shades. Must say, it is a challenge. As soon as we have covered it, I will post the final result.

The wire works

So many clients ask me about the wire part of the lampshades. Well, we manufacture it ourselves. From ordering the wire in bundles of 3 metre lenghts - its heavy, - to turning it, welding it, grinding it and then have it epoxy coated.  That way we can manufacture custom made lampshades. Luv the fact that we can control the complete process!

The Doll Shade (2)

For those who remembered about the antique doll shade, we had to restore....

Pleated Shades

We have just completed 2 pleated shades in silk.  These shades are all hand pleated and can be lined, should the client prefer so.  We have used knife pleats for these shades.  The frame needs to taped first, for us to hand stitch the fabric to the frame.  After the folding is completed, the top and bottom are sewn to the frame.  Thereafter we remove the excess fabric and finish it off with a self fold at the top and bottom

A little finesse

One of my clients redecorated her daughter's room.  She brought the 2 lampshades, fabric and tossels and together we decided to add feather for a bit more drama.  This is soooo beautiful.  In my heart, I'm still a little girl, when it comes to lampshades......

Old Sasko flour bags - now lampshades

I have these very, very old Sasko flour & mealie-meal fabric bags.  Does anyone remember it?  Some of the mills, printed on the fabric, have already closed down.  Soon it will become lampshades, and very special one's.  These will be a limited edition - I can only make 12.....

Clip-on Shades

Do you have some of these shades in your home?  We can change the clip-on fitting to the candle-clip fitting and recover it.  This will then fit on chandelier lamps which are so popular at present. Herewith pictures of a recent change & recovery.

Where does this come from?

While surfing the internet, I came across Lindy's blogspot:  http://lindycottagehill.blogspot.com 
She re-decorated a bedroom and it looks stunning. 

While paging the photos, I saw a little statue on the bedside table which looked familiar.  Yes, is very similar to a lamp base of which I renovated the shade!  Maybe somebody can tell me where this comes from.  The two bases differ, but the same mould was used for the child.  Lindy's statue looks new to me, and the one I saw, is very old.  The lampbase I worked on is near Cape Town, South Africa.  I think Lindy is in the U.S.   Looking forward to hear from anyone.
